Major problem with Dig Dug PCB...
on 7/21/2009 8:56:05 PM
I bought a Dig Dug machine early last Summer and it worked fine up until Winter, when I went for a few weeks on vacation (Funspot! =D) and left it turned off. When I returned and booted it up it went generally wonky, with a loud obnoxious grating white noise sound through the speakers and a strange hum through the coin doors. It had random gibberish flying across the screen at high speeds such as blue Fygars, Dig Dug heads, "Pigh Score" and various other glitches, but after leaving it on for a few minutes it worked fine. Well, it gave me an upside down test screen, then when reset it worked fine, although having erased all my scores (that the battery previously saved after power cycling). It continued needing this 5-20 minutes whenever booted up, so I eventually just left it on, figuring it had to do with temperature, but after a few hours strange vertical scrolling black distortions appeared in the screen and eventually reverted back to the dancing glitches. It still worked when reset, however. Well, here we are back in the summer, and now it's gotten worse- there aren't even full sprites flying around anymore and it never reverted. After leaving it on for a good 12 hours without so much as an upside down test screen, and going through this a couple of times different days, I'm convinced the board is fried now. The cabinet hasn't been moved or messed with internally to change anything and I'm thinking now it's probably just dead for some reason and I don't know what to do about it. Any tips or help on this would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

How experienced are you at examining your PCB? First thing I would do is look over the board for any bad solder joints/connections.

Not very good, but I will check for that first, I think I will recognize that... I've just been afraid to move it to get in XD But that would seem to be the first logical step, so thank you and I will do such!
