I know of Ajax. Shoot-em-up... selectable powerups, giant bomb that you only get one of per life. Switch between helicopter and jet.

I think we've had this conversation before, but yeah, there are similarities. Both have air and ground targets, both have bosses at the end of each stage, and powerups for both are hard to come by. I find it interesting that MX5000 is one of the only shoot-em-ups I've run across that requires your plane to use ground weapons on the boss. Xevious does this too but it only a couple of well placed ground shots beat the boss.

They're both fun. :)
