Just finished checking out the settings on the games ...
The comment about elecyoyo -- I don't have an option to view dip switches either, however, there are a few configurable settings on a screen that you can get to by pressing F1 a few times. I assume that we're staying at default settings, but Bill may want to specify these later.
fantasy -- make sure to turn the continue option off in the dips
sgladiat -- make sure to turn the continue option off in the dips
pignewt -- what's up with these settings, off on all? Mine are all set to on! I wonder if this varies by which version of MAME we're using? I don't remember ever changing this ...
warpwarp -- required files missing error -- is there a parent rom for this?

I made a temporary spreadsheet that autosorts score entries after editing: Feel free to use (opened editing for everyone) Crap MAME Tourney Spreadsheet

The Hand does not work correctly. It needs to be thrown out.
The game will randomly end even when you don't die.
Or, if you run "up" into the next room while the screen is scrolling, the game does not draw the new maze and you are running through walls in an invisible maze.
Replace this one.

OK all games are working for me, settings set, I am ready to crap!
Going to start streaming tomorrow afternoon. So watch out!
One thing, I'm assuming the pages for us to post our scores, times and jtv links for each game will be posted tomorrow?

I haven't played enough of The Hand to encounter the problems that Dean ran into, but I love the game and hope it stays in anyway!

I haven't run into that problem with The Hand yet either. I'm using wolf145 if it matters
also I should note that some of the dip switches are listed differently in newer versions of MAME. Like, Gladiator 1984 doesn't have a line for "Bonus Occurence", if we're using 1st and every 2nd then is that equal to "20k 60k 60k" instead of "20k 60k"?

I broke the ice and recorded some scores for 10 of the 12 games. I was having trouble getting warpwarp working but I think that will be ok. Thehand, on the other hand is broken and I'm not the only one who thinks so. Anyways, I think there will soon be seperate threads where we can all update each other on our progress, but for now, here are my scores ...
Scores are based on this stream:
http://www.twitch.tv/up2ng/b/317399593
botanic: 32400 +1:36
disco: 13290 +2:50
elecyoyo: 24960 +2:12
fantasy: 11730 +1:39
sgladiat: 12000 +2:34
imsorry: 62437 +1:25
kingball: 24920 +2:45
pignewt: 595600 +3:06
safari: 9500 +2:17
upndown: 73780 +2:07

Warp & Warp works fine for me in either 0.106 or 0.145, maybe it's just a bad rom you got?
I played a bunch of games earlier but now I realized that I wasn't showing the dip switch settings for each game (go easy on me, this is my first CT). It's okay because I'm still learning these games and am going to start playing again right now. What I want to know is, adding on to my previous post... seeing how certain dip switches are displayed differently in newer versions of MAME, are any of the settings posted different from what MAME considers to be defaults?
Like, I see that Fantasy has Continue turned Off which is different from the default On in 0.106. When I check in 0.145, there isn't an even option to disable continuing, which is bizarre. Either way, it'd be pretty obvious when somebody uses a continue, plus it resets your score. Plus AFAIK you can't continue if you clear the first "round". So is the absence of that dipswitch a make-or-break thing?
And for the record, I don't want to use WolfMAME/MAME 0.106 because I can't seem to capture video directly with it (obviously screen capturing is always an option instead), and 0.106 doesn't even recognize my joystick.

Usually all games are played under default settings, but we have to assure consistency throughout the competition by requiring players show their dips. More importantly, Aurcade is doing us a great service allowing us to use their scoring database to track the tournament scores, i.e permanently recording our scores in the database. Therefore we are obliged to treat CT scores with some level of scrutiny less we threaten to corrupt the validity of other scores in the database.
That said, with respect to continues, it's my opinion that just not continuing serves the same purpose as turning off the dip. Each and every score will get verified - no one is going to miss a player using a continue. Furthermore, only total bosses play in the Crap Tourneys, and total bosses would never pull any weak shit like that.

Fair enough! Well I guess some of my early scores are invalidated then because when I was first playing earlier tonight I didn't know about the rule. It's okay, I'll get better scores tomorrow.
Oh, here's one weird thing I noticed - in MAME 0.106, Botanic actually gives you 5 lives instead of the 3 lives that the dip switches day. In MAME 0.145, Botanic actually gives you 4 lives when it says 3. Either way, the dip switches are completely incorrect. If we're actually trying to get a proper 3-lives settings, the dip switches may vary - it seems that in 0.106, setting it to 4 lives will give you the default 3, and in 0.145 you have to put it on 2 lives to get 3. What a headache! Players and confirmers should be careful to note the starting amount of lives if we are aiming for a default 3 lives.
Anyway in the interest of fair play here's my scores after some hours of play:
botanic - 34200 (4 lives, stopped playing when I realized the incorrect settings) disco - 25550 (HELP I DON'T GET THIS GAME AT ALL) elecyoyo - 48970 imsorry - 116174 (game with leeching potential...) fantasy - 44420 kingball - 62680 pignewt - 97400 (I am so terrible at this holy shit) safari - ? (haven't made an honest attempt at but I did somehow break 10k on MARP way back when...) sgladiat - 40300 thehand - 44760 upndown - 55060 warpwarp - 28800

The Hand is bugged for me as well, at least running WolfMAME106. After you finish a maze, it doesn't redraw the next one properly, so you can't see any of the dots, and the paths are all messed up as well.

Thanks for working that out! Everyone please find the setting on your version of MAME that gives you 3 ACTUAL lives to start. If you happen to play a game at the wrong settings, score will be taken after your 3rd death. But please just change the settings. :)

As has been noted by Zerst in the thread on CAG, there's some weird stuff going on with Pig Newton's settings. There's nothing in the dip switches about extra lives. In 0.106 you get extra lives at 10k and 50k, but in the newest version of MAME (0.145) there's only one extra life, and it's at 200k. I've apparently been handicapping myself by playing with the newest version. What's the official ruling on the lives, since there doesn't seem to be any way to change when extra lives are awarded?
