If John announced before February 18th... he didn't do it on his website, nor did he do it on his forums, or his twitter account. No mention at all on front page of website, and both Forum and Twitter announcements point to February 18th. Maybe it was referenced in some forum thread about the idea, but not a full-blown announcement.
Galloping Ghost has wanted to do a tournament for a very long time and the T20 has been in development for awhile. It was going to be later in the year but got slotted in late May after the FunSpot tournament fell apart.

Read through the thread. February 17th you got the green light. Clearly though, you were trying to get it setup the second FunSpot cancelled.
Could have gotten the word out better that you were attempting to do this. Nobody from the Ghost inner-circle seemed to mention your tournament until about a month ago. The group of ghost'ers that were planning on going to FunSpot had cancelled the trip a few days after FunSpot officially cancelled.

At the end of the day, it probably doesn't matter as the tournaments are in different parts of the country. It's probably fine.

I agree, they'll both still be awesome events. Perhaps the only thing that would have prevented the conflict is if Funspot did not post the announcement in the first place until they confirmed nobody was willing to step in and run the tournament. Obviously, that would have required a huge amount of hindsight.

Strictly from a fan perspective, I'll be choosing the Galloping Ghost due to it's proximity to other "things to do" and the quality of it's machine due to all the hard work the staff puts into them. If I'm not mistaking, Walter Day will also be at this tournament to announce that the Galloping Ghost is officially the world's largest arcade for the Guinness Book of World Records - long over due! Exciting stuff.

I'm sure they haven't even built that list yet.
I had a pipe dream that somehow we could have a mini "Battle of the Arcades" tournament between Funspot and Galloping Ghost... especially if the lists overlapped by a couple of titles.
