Falcor has solid rules - hope our mighty leaders are reading them.

I'm curious to see how many players there are this year. I think last year was 102 and the year before was around 120 or so. I'd like to see 200, but I bet it's less than 90.

Why doesn't ACAM take 5 pinballs and do a side pinball tourney the same weekend to attract that genre of gamers?

They used to do that and it was a lot of fun. In fact, my own preference was to compete in the pinball portion. I met a couple of my closest friends through that portion of the competition.

I'm not quite sure what happened, but it could be:

(1) The amount of effort (and money) needed to keep the games running all weekend due to the constant beating on them.

(2) ACAM coming into existence in its own right and spearheading the competition. ACAM is for classic arcade games, not pinball (last I checked and inferred from their mission statement).

Note to all that I am ::SPECULATING::. I have no knowledge of the actual reason(s) why.

Under tournament conditions (40+ hours inclusive of 3 sessions of approx 12 hours of gameplay and then some, 1 full-time dedicated tech on premise to handle all 500+ games on the premise), it could be that pins have a lot more that can go wrong with them compared to a stand-up title.

I'm not a technical expert by any means, but it seems to me that from a resource perspective, it might be easier to handle repairs on a stand-up during a long-duration tourney than on a pin title.

Just an opinion.

@Moneill to help find me
If you're wondering who I am I'll be the guy NOT wearing a black t-shirt. So I should be easy to spot among the players.

Can you imagine if they got on the PA system and said "Would the player wearing the black tshirt with cheap jeans please come to the sign in table". Christ, there'd be a stampede.

OR

"Would the fat, single gamer, who hasnt been laid in years and didn't shower this morning therefore smells super bad come to the sign in table".

As with last year, this year and the next two are quite special as the vast majority of the games we regard as "classics" are celebrating their 30th anniversaries !!

The fact that so many players gather each year to try their skills on these titles is testament to the longevity, nostalgia and unparalleled sense of historic value that these titles have for us. These are the titles that we all grew up with and honed our arcade skills at.

How many museums out there let you have your cake (see the exhibits) and eat it (play with them) at the same time ? ACAM is truly a special place indeed.

Just 7 hours to go before the fun begins !! Less, actually, as some gamers will be there as early as 9:00am so as to chat with fellow gamers that they haven't seen for a year or more, and in some cases for the very first time.

With gamers from three different continents likely in attendance and at least three different countries outside the US that I know are planning to attend this year, it should be rollicking good clean fun for one and all.

Too bad Michael Buffert is not hear to proclaim "Let's Get Ready to Rumble !!" but then again, after paying his fee there would be no prizes to hand out :)

Even so, the feeling is still the same...everyone trying there best. and most of all having fun (and maybe a slice of Funspot pizza or two along the way)

Good luck one and all, and if previous events have taught us anything, it ain't over until the very last performances are logged...sometimes the outcome is THAT close !!

Thanks in advance to Gary and his ACAM team for making this possible once more. Imagine...1999 was the very first one, and now this is the must-attend annual classic gaming competition of all time since then. not bad :)

Robert
